“Kony2012” The REST of the REAL Story
by nielskunze on March 12, 2012
To me, this story was never about Joseph Kony. It was about the social media phenomenon which surrounded his name. That was the remarkable thing in my view.
In a previous article I said that I wasn’t interested in digging into the “other side of the story.” So many people have asked me in the meantime for my opinion, so I’ve decided to present the research and opinions of others who have done just that– revealed the other side. As far as my own personal involvement… I felt comfortable sharing the original mini-documentary on Facebook, but I never considered donating money to the cause. I’ve made a very comfortable spot for myself, sitting on the fence.
Let’s start with two print articles detailing the rest of the story.

And if reading lengthy print articles isn’t really your thing, here’s a video by a very geopolitically savvy Syrian woman who explains some of the “problems” with the Kony video in less than 8 minutes.

And here, my prize… another video about 9 minutes long which explains the significance of the social media phenomenon surrounding Kony2012.

Now instead of trying to immediately sell us the solution like the Kony film did with its Activists’ Kits, what if a powerful video asked us instead to enter into an open dialogue about brainstorming solutions? Link us to a forum where we can intelligently discuss the matter, and let the millions decide how best to tackle the world’s ills. I believe that’s exactly what’s in store for us. It excites me!
