The most innocent among us can catch out the Devil easily…
Sitka is always pouncing in the tall grass like a hungry coyote. This time I could tell right away that she’d actually caught something rustling beneath the brown matted remains of last year’s bounty. As I quickly reached for my camera, she came up from the ground with a fat field mouse in her mouth. By the time I got the film rolling, she had put the mouse down on the matted ground again… and it escaped… leaving behind a considerable trail of blood…
Sometimes I’m required to extend a metaphor beyond its typical carrying capacity. This is one such occasion; feel free to report me to the literary police if you must. (They only got all C’s in high school too.)
Mouse symbolizes attention to detail… and everybody knows that the devil’s in the details… ergo, Sitka leapt upon ol’ Satan himself in the long grass and shadows.
Evil’s cunning is a slippery thing! For decades, personally, I have consistently downplayed the role of evil in the world, thinking that the manifestation of evil is hardly more than the personal failings of misguided individuals. Recently however, I have been forced to look more deeply into the matter… into the very real transpersonal nature of evil in our modern world.
Whether we refer to it as the System of Antichrist, the False Light Realms of the Demiurge, or as the psycho-spiritual virus of Malignant Egophrenia (ME disease)– also known to the Cree as wetiko, evil in our world is no simple matter to be brushed off as mere personal error. No, it is far more pernicious and endemic than once I had thought!
Make no mistake, though. The true face of evil is currently being flushed from the shadows, as its voracious and insatiable appetite forces it into ever bolder expressions and undertakings. It can no longer be easily ignored. Evil’s unfettered narcissism is showing its true face and the tired old deflections and misdirections are failing to divert humanity’s attention. We’re not being so easily fooled anymore by those claiming to represent the greater good while they loot, plunder and rape at will.
Yes, we have a huge shadow to integrate collectively… but fortunately, this shadow bleeds… profusely, leaving a trail even the dullest among us can follow…
Necessity joins us to the hunt!
